The market is full of different systems or types of hair extensions and your stylist will tell you that the system he or she uses is the best. Yet each uses a different type of extension system so how do we know which one is the best and why? The reality is that they are all good when used on the right hair type to achieve a certain result. But, if you decide on the wrong type of hair or use an unsuitable method of attaching that extension then not only will you not achieve the look you were after but you could also end up with serious damage to your hair. So, before going any further, the first decision to be made is to select the type of extension hair that will suit your hair type,

Synthetic Hair

Unless you want to look like you've got a shredded plastic bag stuck to your head avoid it at all times. Synthetic Hair is basically plastic and will NEVER look like you grew it (unless you are 12 inches tall and your name is Barbie). Synthetic hair is however, great for dreadlocks - but that's another story.

Chinese Hair

This hair is a coarse hair strand and grows naturally very dark (black) and very very straight. Use it if you are Asian or and you do not colour your hair and you want the sleek, dark look. Only buy Asian hair that has been coloured/permed if you don't expect to wear the extensions for a long time and you can't afford anything else.

The Best Hair - Raw/Virgin Hair/Remy

This hair is like gold (and sometimes more expensive). Genetic factors ensure that this hair is of the utmost quality. It has been grown for generations by the same families specifically to be cut and sold. It has never been chemically treated in any way (blonde hair is grown on a blonde head, curly hair on a curly head) and as such is much better suited to colouring and perming if necessary.

It is at it's best when left in the virgin state (i.e. choose colours and blend them to match your colour exactly) but can last very well if colour correctly and gently too.

This hair can last many years (one of our clients had 22" Russian hair for 4 1/2 years and it was still 22" long when she changed it). Most extensions artist don't use (or even know about) raw/virgin hair because it is very rare and extremely expensive. But if you can get it, and you can afford it - buy it!

Brazillian Hair

Brazilian hair is healthy virgin hair, which has not been processed at all. It is cuticle hair, collected on the ponytail, and sold as such. Therefore, the direction of the hair is respected, and the hair does not tangle at all. It comes in natural colours of dark brown or black. Sometimes it is a little lighter. The dark colours can be dyed to lighter shades, just as you would colour any hair.

It is strong hair, that is naturally straight, wavy or curly. The waviness can be easily turned into curly with proper styling. It is excellent for people from African ancestry, as it looks very natural, yet manageable. The hair has not been altered chemically or mechanically. Russian Hair

It is grown in places near the Arctic Circle such as Russia and Poland. Genetic factors ensure that this hair is of the utmost quality It is currently the most demanded hair on the market.
